You don’t need to know what you want to do after St Andrews before visiting us. Whether you have no idea or a clear idea, we have lots of advice and resources to help you on your career journey.

Here are our top five tips to help you get started:

Chat with a careers adviser

We have four careers advisers, who can answer any career-related question you have. This could be anything from about how to find part-time jobs in the town, to advice on networking, information on how best to approach interviews, thinking about module selection, or just a general discussion about your future career.

We also have five CV advisers, who can help you with your CV, cover letter, or LinkedIn profile.

Appointments can be shorter, 15-minute sessions, or longer, 45-minute sessions. To find out more about the kinds of appointment we offer, visit our book an appointments page.

Come to an event

We host a variety of events throughout the semester. This includes sessions on how to write a CV, exploring whether postgraduate study is right for you, or preparing for assessment centres, and much more.

We also advertise events organised by a variety of employers and organisations about how to succeed in job applications and improve your career prospects.

In addition, we have an annual careers fair, which this year will be hosted online via Hopin, with over 50 employers in attendance, including BNY Mellon, Deutsche Bank, and Aldi, as well as the NHS and Royal Air Force.

To find out more and to book your place, visit our events page.

Connect with alumni

We can help you get in touch with alumni of the University, including those who have entered a job you are interested in, or studied what you study. This can let you benefit from their experience, as well as create useful contacts for the future. This includes Saint Connect, a platform for connecting with St Andrews alumni, and Coffee Connect, which lets you meet informally with recent graduates of the University.

To find out more, visit our Saint Connect page and the Coffee Connect page.

Use our careers resources

We offer several online resources to help you find a job. These include:

  • GoinGlobal, which can give you bespoke advice for applying for jobs all over the world. Access it through the jobs outside the UK page.
  • Interview360, which gives you AI-generated feedback on your interview performance. Access it through the interview skills page.
  • Graduates First, which helps you practise the psychometric tests that many large graduate employers use regularly. Access it through the psychometric tests page.
  • CareerSet, which gives you instant, scored feedback on your CV and cover letter. Access it through CareerSet’s website.

We are always reviewing the resources we offer, and plan to add more soon. If you need any help accessing or using these resources, please contact [email protected].
