The Professional Skills Curriculum

The Professional Skills Curriculum (PSC) is a programme of workshops designed to enhance your employability.

Your degree will provide you with many of the skills that employers are looking for. But the PSC helps you build on these, developing in greater depth the graduate attributes that employers want to see in their employees.

Whatever career you are interested in, or even if you’ve yet to make up your mind, a PSC award will help you move into the world of work with greater confidence.

Why complete the PSC

Successful completion of a PSC award will give you the kinds of skills that employers are looking for. It will be something you can note on your CV or cover letter when applying for a job, and something you can talk about in an interview.

Importantly, PSC awards are also formally recognised by the University:

Additionally, you can purchase a certificate endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management, confirming your completion of the programme.

The PSC is also a very flexible programme. There are many workshops to choose from, and these can be completed over the course of a year. Current workshops include general topics, such as confidence and belief, dealing with transitions, and presentation skills, to practical matters, such as filmography on mobile devices, utilising PowerPoint alternatives, and making podcasts.

PSC+

PSC+ allows you to specialise in specific employability skills and sectors. Available in nine ‘strands’, you can take PSC+ courses in IT, investment banking, consulting, and much more.

Like the standard PSC award, the PSC+ is very flexible. You can work towards a PSC+ award in addition to or separately from the PSC Award: you don’t need to have completed a PSC award first.

Keep in touch with the PSC

CEED is constantly updating existing workshops and adding new ones, so don’t forget to check what’s coming up.

To stay up-to-date with the PSC, keep an eye on the PSC’s Facebook page, as well as the Careers Centre’s Twitter and Instagram. You can also view the full range of PSC workshops, as well as a calendar of upcoming PSC workshops.
