Shine a spotlight on your skills and achievements with the new Saints Skills Spotlight Award, a mock recruitment process that helps make you more employable.

Are you looking for a way to boost your employability and showcase your skills to potential employers or admissions staff? Do you want to learn how to write effective applications and ace interviews? Do you like prizes?

If so, you might be interested in the Saints Skills Spotlight Award, newly developed by the Careers Centre for all St Andrews students.

The Spotlight Award is a mock recruitment process that helps you talk about your skills, making you more employable. It can also help you apply for further study.

What will you do?

You’ll:

  • submit a CV and cover letter targeted at a job or course of further study you choose
  • record a video interview.

Depending on how well you perform, you may then be invited to take part in an assessment centre led by a graduate employer.

Why do it?

By taking part in the award, you will be able to:

  • identify the key skills a job description asks for
  • show that you have the key skills an employer wants
  • write applications, highlight your abilities, and make your skills relevant
  • hone your interview skills, getting feedback from careers professionals.

The Spotlight Award is a great opportunity to develop your confidence and communication skills, as well as to network with potential employers and peers. It will also help you stand out from the crowd and increase your chances of landing your preferred job or course.

Recognition and prizes

After completing a Spotlight Award, your achievement will be noted on your Higher Education Achievement Award (HEAR) transcript. You’ll also be given a badge for your LinkedIn profile.

If you take part in the assessment centre, you’ll be given an enhanced Spotlight Award. If you are one of the best-performing students in the assessment centre, you’ll win a prize from the employer
