How to use CareerConnect

If you’re not familiar with CareerConnect, it’s the Careers Centre’s online career hub.

Whether you’re searching for a part-time job, want to know which employers are currently recruiting, or simply want to book an appointment to have a chat with one of our friendly Careers Advisers or have your CV checked – look no further than CareerConnect!

Who can use CareerConnect?

CareerConnect is for:

  • fully matriculated full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • graduates (within three years of graduation)
  • graduate-level staff members of the University.

What can you do on CareerConnect?

You can:

  • book an appointment with a Careers Adviser or CV Adviser
  • search for part-time jobs, internships, and graduate opportunities
  • ask us a question
  • view a calendar of upcoming events, including Career Ready sessions hosted by the Careers Centre
  • sign-up to events, including our annual Careers Fair.

Your personal CareerConnect profile

If you are a student, you must check and complete your profile before you can use CareerConnect.
If you’re not automatically taken to your profile, select ‘Update Profile’ from the ‘My Profile’ menu.

Once you have filled in all the required fields, click on ‘Save’ on the final tab to submit your profile changes.
Please note your course details cannot be changed, as these are based on your student record.

Changing your password

  • Students must always sign in with their Single Sign-On (SSO) password. If you need to change your password, please contact IT Services. The Careers Centre cannot change your password.
  • Graduates can change their password from within CareerConnect by selecting ‘Update Password’ from the ‘My Profile’ menu.
  • Staff can change their password from within CareerConnect by selecting ‘Update Profile’ from the ‘My Profile’ menu.

Using CareerConnect

Search for jobs

CareerConnect hosts a wide variety of opportunities advertised by employers and organisations who are looking to recruit University of St Andrews students or graduates for:

  • part-time jobs (in St Andrews and surrounding areas)
  • internships and work experience
  • full-time jobs
  • graduate opportunities

To search for vacancies, click on ‘Search’ on the top bar, and then select ‘Vacancies’. You will then be able to browse through the full list of opportunities, search by keyword for specific jobs, or filter by sector, location, opportunity type, and more.

Advice and guidance

You can use CareerConnect to book appointments with our Careers Advisers and CV Advisers. All appointments are currently held online, via Microsoft Teams, and can be booked on CareerConnect from 6pm the night before.

CV Adviser appointments: to discuss a CV, covering letter, or LinkedIn profile, book an appointment to see a CV Adviser. Log-in to CareerConnect and click on ‘Appointments’, ‘Book Appointment’, then ‘CV, cover letter and LinkedIn advice’. You can then choose a CV Adviser, date, and time.

Careers Adviser appointments: To book an appointment to discuss any other career related matter, log-in to CareerConnect and click on ‘Appointments’, ‘Book Appointment’, then ‘Careers Appointment’. You can then choose a Careers Adviser, date, and time.

Career exploration and events

Career Discovery: Career Discovery has thousands of articles, videos, podcasts and more to help you discover the many career path options open to you! The more you engage with Career Discovery, the better it becomes at understanding your interests and highlighting new content relevant to you.

Career events: CareerConnect lists career events organised by the Careers Centre, employers, and organisations. Click on ‘Book’ then ‘Events’ and browse events happening on a week-by-week basis or filter a list of events by type or sector. Clicking on any event will bring up further details, including instructions on how to book.
