Whether you’re joining St Andrews as a Fresher, returning for another year, or preparing to graduate, the Careers Centre is here to help you make the most of your time at university and beyond.

For Freshers, it’s never too early to start thinking about your future. We can help you find part-time work, build your CV, develop skills employers value, explore career options, and connect with employers and alumni.

No matter where you are in your career journey, our friendly team is here to support you every step of the way. Take a look at our top tips below and discover how to get started.

Getting started: Our top tips

1. Don’t miss the Careers Centre Open Day

📅 Wednesday 9 September
🕚 11am to 3pm
📍 6 St Mary’s Place, St Andrews (opposite the Students’ Association)

Join us for our Open Day to discover how we can support you throughout your time at university and beyond.

On the day you can:

  • ask careers staff questions at the information stands
  • learn how to find and apply for part-time jobs, internships and work experience opportunities
  • attend short demonstrations of our online career tools and our Career Connect platform
  • enter our raffle for the chance to win prizes donated by local employers
  • enter a competition to win a digital camera
  • pick up some freebies.

All students are welcome! Drop in any time between 11am and 3pm. No registration is required.

To support students who may prefer a quieter environment, there will be a designated quiet half hour from 2:30pm to 3pm.

2. Book a one-to-one appointment

Looking for personalised advice? We offer tailored support through individual appointments, including:

  • Career guidance: Explore your options and get clarity on your next steps
  • CV, cover letter, and LinkedIn reviews: Make your applications stand out
  • Mock interviews: Interview practice with a Careers Adviser.

All our appointments are bookable via CareerConnect.
