Tune In: Introducing the Careers Centre podcast

We’re excited to share some fantastic news! We’ve launched our very first podcast, Real Stories, Real Impact, bringing honest conversations, practical advice and inspiring career journeys straight to your headphones.
Hosted by Michaela Mackie, Opportunities and Events Coordinator, and Michelle Stewart, Employability & Experiences Coordinator, the podcast explores the realities of careers and employability through conversations with students, alumni, employers and Careers Centre colleagues.
We’re delighted to be taking career conversations beyond workshops, appointments and events, creating a space where you can learn from others, gain fresh perspectives and explore what’s possible for your future.
Careers advice, wherever you are
Whether you’re in your first year, approaching graduation, completing a PhD, or simply wondering what comes next, Real Stories, Real Impact is designed with you in mind. New episodes will be released every two weeks throughout Semester 1. Be sure to join us as we explore the realities of careers and employability with a range of guests from across the University of St Andrews community and beyond.
Real conversations about real career journeys
Career paths are rarely straightforward, and that’s exactly what makes them interesting. Through open and authentic discussions, the podcast shines a light on the experiences that don’t always appear on CVs or LinkedIn profiles. Expect honest stories about challenges, setbacks, unexpected opportunities and the lessons learned along the way.
Topics throughout the series will include questions students frequently ask us about, including:
- internships and work experience
- graduate schemes
- assessment centres and recruitment processes
- networking and building professional connections
- artificial intelligence and the future of work
- career decision-making
- employability skills and personal development.
Making careers feel more accessible
We know that careers and employability can sometimes feel overwhelming. With so much advice available and so many different routes to success, it can be difficult to know where to start. That’s why the aim of the podcast is simple: to make careers advice feel more accessible, approachable and human. Each episode combines practical tips, myth-busting insights and genuine conversations to help you feel informed, confident and reassured that you don’t need to have everything figured out.
We’d love to hear from you
This podcast has been created for our students, and we’d love your ideas for future episodes.
Is there a career topic you’d like us to explore? An industry you’re interested in? A question you’ve always wanted to ask employers, alumni or Careers Centre staff?
